The record’s top face takes us hovering like a disembodied spirit into New York City-based Dead Gods labelman Scant’s signature domain of dooming concrète landscapes and harrowing synthetic machine textures, transmutating into organic necrosis—teasing the instincts with glimmering pretenses of hope in the existential darkness, only for a far more sinister duality to reveal itself long after it’s too late to outrun.
On the record’s reverse face, we have DJ Speedsick—known nearly ubiquitously throughout the underground and far beyond as an aesthetic iconoclast and among the earliest pioneers of a new generation of electronic and techno artists’ cathartic and unapologetic sound. However, here the Chicago-based producer defects from beat-sequencing into a fractured memory, following a trail of blood in the snow back to some of Speedsick’s earliest known sounds, echoed from his debut and sophomore efforts Odyssey 97 on Breathing Problem and N.Y.S.S. on Dead Gods, as he returns to his roots of backwoods industrial isolationism in the delirium of “Watching The Walls Bleed.”
